Beat Lynx TH170WD is a Balance-type Beyblade that appears in the anime and manga series, Beyblade: Metal Fury. It is owned by Johannes and was released in Random Booster Vol. 7 Beat Lynx as the "Super Rare" prize Beyblade on April 23, 2011 in Japan.

Beat Lynx's main feature is its TH170 Spin Track. TH170 has the ability to change between three heights, 170, 195, and 220. Hasbro changed the Beyblade's Spin Track to AD145 instead of using TH170 to make the Beyblade Beat Lynx AD145WD.

The Face Bolt depicts "Lynx", one of the 88 constellations in space. The Face Bolt print simply depicts the head of a lynx. The Face Bolt stickers feature a spot pattern based on those of a lynx, similar to the Energy Ring stickers.

Spin Track: Triple Height 170 (TH170)

Main article: Spin Track - TH170

Triple Height 170 (TH170) contains a height-changing Track similar to CH120; it can change between 170, 195, and 220. Unlike CH120, TH170 has no mechanical problems that cause it to change height mid-battle, like many CH120's do. However, it has a durability issue in that it is somewhat easy to break because of the height changing mechanism. In particular an inexperienced user can accidentally break it attempting to change its height. It can also break mid-battle if configured improperly.

TH170 is infinitely more versatile than 230 because of its height change ability. While 230 is easily KOed by 145-height Attack customizations due to its height, TH170 can stand up against them if necessary with the two lower heights it can change down to: 170 and 195. And it can also fare well against low-Track Attack customizations just as well as 230 can when used at the 220-height. Although, it should be noted that due to the height change mechanism of the Track, the design of TH170 is not as funnel-like and smooth as 230's is. As a result, low-Track Attackers could possibly garner more success against TH170 at the 220-height than they would against 230; this is also part of its durability issue. This is simply one minor caveat though; TH170's outstanding ability to adapt to countless situations more than makes up for it.

In general, the 170 and 195 heights are best used against 145-height Attack and Stamina combinations, while the 220 height is best used for outspinning 230-height Stamina customs, as well as low-track Attack, Defense, and Stamina combinations.

Use in Defense Combination

On the 170 and 195-heights, TH170 can be difficult to KO for many Attackers. To optimize this ability, combine it with the following parts: MF-H, Twisted, Aquario, and Rubber Defense Flat (RDF) to create the formidable defensive opponent, MF-H Basalt Aquario TH170RDF.

Use in Stamina Customization

TH170 is one of the most popular choices for Stamina customizations due to its extremely high versatility. It can be used well in the combination, Phantom Cancer/Cygnus TH170D.

Use in Balance Combination

TH170 is a key part in the combination MF/MF-H Basalt Kerbecs TH170WF. This combination succeeds by utilizing its great momentum and versatility to perform well against all types of opponents.

Performance Tip: Wide Defense

Main article: Performance Tip - WD

Wide Defense (WD) retains the two curved holes D contained but are now thinner, smaller and found on the Sharp tip.

Being wider brings advantages and disadvantages to WD. An advantage is being able to conserve better Stamina than D and SD, due to the more surface area as well as being able to spin at a lower spin-rate that that of D or SD which cannot. A disadvantage however, is that it is worse at regaining balance than D. The wide shape gives WD a harder time to regain its balance whereas, D does it much easier. This should take into consideration when using a Spin Track such as 230 or TH170. D would be a better choice than WD as it would regain balance much easier to help cope with 230. However, while D can regain balance better, it cannot maintain it as well as WD, especially with the heights of 170 and above.

At release, WD has found quick use as a Stamina-Type Tip, much better than D and has become top-tier. Despite this however, as many more Performance Tips like AS, EWD, and B:D were released; they have overshadowed WD. EWD has also overshadowed WD due to EWD's bearing to regain balance better and much better Stamina. W²D performs basically the same as WD though but with worse balance but better attack.

Wide Defense (WD) has significant defensive capabilities as well, but because it still uses a form of sharp tip, its friction with the stadium floor is decreased, which as a result makes it easier to knock around than a Tip like WB which has much more friction with the stadium floor. But since it can recover quickly, it does not matter.

Some Bladers experience a fast movement from Wide Defense, allowing the Wide Defense tip with fast movement to be paired with high-recoil fusion wheels such as Vulcan, Beat, Fang, Spiral, Flash, or Variares, to create powerful, or even a 1-Hit KO Attack-type combos, or be paired with low-recoil fusion wheels such as Bakushin, Duo, Gravity (Perseus Stamina), Fusion, Wing, Death to create counter-attacking Defense-Type combos.

Overall

This Beyblade contains excellent parts for all Beyblade Types, which is a very rare occurrence. Beat was one of the best right-spin Attack wheels upon release, comparable to VariAres or Blitz; TH170 is used to great effect in top-tier Defense, Stamina and Balance customizations and WD, despite its numerous releases, still sees use in competitive Stamina customizations. Every Blader should own at least one of this Beyblade.
