KnightShield (ナイトシールド, NaitoShīrudo) is a Blade released by Takara Tomy as part of the Basic Line system. It debuted in Japan with the release of the BX-04 Starter, KnightShield 3-80N, on July 15th, 2023. It later debuted in western countries as Helm Knight with the release of Hasbro's Starter Pack, Helm Knight 3-80N.

Description

Its six defensive blades create an impact dampening structure, easily absorbing attacks.
— Official Description

Helm Knight (Japanese: KnightShield) is a round Defense Type Blade with six main contact points. The Gear Chip features a knight wearing a close helm.

KnightShield was one of the first four Blades released, and was the first Defense Type Blade released. The original weight of KnightShield averaged 32.4 grams, slightly less than its contemporary, HellsScythe (Scythe Incendio), which averaged 33.0 grams. KnightShield was popular in 3on3 Battle decks and was common in decks from its release in June 2023 until March 2024, when it was immediately outclassed by the heavier WizardRod (Wand Wizard) Blade. WizardRod, which had a similar shape and use, eventually replaced both KnightShield and HellsScythe for Defense and Stamina combos.

Releases of KnightShield produced during January 2025 onward (which all have a clear coat) have a new reinforced mold that weighs 34.8 grams on average. This second mold was first released with Takara Tomy and Hasbro reprints of the original BX-04/F9581 KnightShield 3-80N.

KnightShield is the base design for several retools: Iron Man, Luke Skywalker, and Optimus Prime. The retools weigh less than KnightShield, and have worse balancing and contact points.

Overall

Although a competitive release at the beginning of the toyline, KnightShield has subsequently been replaced by heavier Defense and Stamina Type Blades.

As such, KnightShield is not recommended for the WBO's X format.
