The Energy Layer™[Notes 1] is a component of Beyblade Burst™ tops. Within the Beyblade Burst™ Performance Top System™, the Energy Layer is (structurally) the first layer of the top's anatomy and affects how Beyblade tops engages one another in battle, mainly through the use of Attacks.

Description

{{{quote}}}
— {{{speaker}}}Template:Small

Similar to the Attack Rings, Energy Rings/Fusion Wheels, and Element Wheels/Warrior Wheels, Energy Layers are the primary combat component of the Beyblade and provides the necessary tools and weapons for the Bey to engage other Beys in combat. Most Energy Layers are designed with the likeness of an Avatar and many of their characteristics and attributes are reflected in their design.

Energy Layers, much like Energy Rings/Fusion Wheels, and Element Wheels/Warrior Wheels, determine the Spin of the Beyblade top.

Energy Layer Classifications

The standard construction of an Energy Layer™ usually consists of pieces made from either clear polycarbonate (PC) and colored acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) plastic materials, as well as metal support pieces (ie. screws and springs) when necessary. All Energy Layer vary greatly in size and shape. Many Energy Layers™ produced by Takara Tomy were manufactured using the following materials:

Polyamide (PA) Polycarbonate (PC)
Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) Polyoxymethylene (POM)
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) Zinc-Alloy
Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) PVC: Polyvinyl chloride

Performance Top Layers

The first series of Energy Layers™ had a simple structure and design, usually comprising a clear casing over a colored frame. Both pieces featured distinct points of articulation between them which complimented each other as a single unit.

This type of Energy Layers originally debuted in April of 2016 in Japan as part of Takara-Tomy's BB dual system logo Dual Layer System Beyblade series, being known as Dual Layers.

Dual Layers

This classification of Energy Layer consist of a clear Over Layer[Notes 2] and a colored Layer Core[Notes 3] which work together to structurally support each other. Layer Cores feature the effigy of the Beyblade's Avatar while Over Layers feature the stylized initials of the Energy Layers, engraved in its center.

This type of Energy Layers originally debuted in April of 2016 in Japan as part of Takara-Tomy's BB dual system logo Dual Layer System Beyblade series, being known as Dual Layers.

When Hasbro began manufacture and distribution of Beyblade Burst™ products in the international territories, they would release both the original wave of Beyblade Burst™ and Dual Layer™ tops under their Beyblade Burst™ Performance Top System.

SwitchStrike Energy Layers

SwitchStrike™ Energy Layers™[Notes 4] are a category of Energy Layer™ that contain unique features that augment the way Beyblade tops behaves during battle.

Available only to Takara Tomy Beyblade Burst™ God Layers are a unique component known as a God Chip[Notes 5] in Japan. God Layers can be customized by removing their God Chips and replaced with them with God Chips from another Takara Tomy Beyblade Burst™ God Layers.

As mention before, this capability only exists with Takara Tomy Beyblade Burst™ God Layers, with Hasbro Beyblade Burst™ SwitchStrike™ Energy Layers lacking this function due to their design.

Disc-Integrated Layers

Disc-Integrated Layers are a category of Energy Layer that were introduced by Takara-Tomy©, and released to Japanese consumers on November 11th, 2017 with the B-97 Starter: Nightmare Longinus.Ds pack. Marketed as Disk-integrated Types (Japanese: ディスク一体型), these Energy Layers fuses elements of the Forge Disc with elements of the Energy Layer into a singular component and the only example of this type of Energy Layer is the Nightmare Longinus (nL) Layer from Takara-Tomy©'s B-97 Nightmare Longinus.Ds Starter pack and the Luinor L3 (LD01) Fused Energy Layer™ and Forge Disc™ found in Hasbro©'s Luinor L3 LD01 TA14 SwitchStrike Starter Pack. Internationally, Hasbro© would market these parts as "Fused parts" with the only example of this being the .

Cho-Z Layers

Cho-Z Layers are a category of Energy Layers™ constructed with heavyweight die-cast metal[Notes 6] parts reinforcing the exterior. Cho-Z Layers manufactured by Takara-Tomy differ from the Hasbro brand Energy Layers™ in two, key aspects. The first being that Cho-Z Layers were designed to accommodate Level Chips and the other being that all Hasbro brand, Cho-Z-inspired Energy Layers™ (with the exclusion of the Hades H3) have replaced the material used for the Zinc-Alloy parts with a lighter, plastic material.

All Energy Layers™ inspired by the Takara-Tomy's Cho-Z Layers were released under the Beyblade Burst™ SlingShock™ product line, with the exception of the "Turbo Valtryek V3" and "Hades H3" Energy Layers, which were released under the Beyblade Burst™ SwitchStrike™ brand.

Gatinko Layers

GaTinko Layers are a type of Energy Layer™ designed for customization. Takara Tomy© brand Gatinko Layers specifically can be customized between three specific parts:

  • Gatinko Chip: Determines the spin direction and the assemblage component for the Gatinko Layer.
  • Weight: Influences the Energy Layer's weight distribution.
  • Base: Determines how the top engages with an opponent when they collide in battle and also helps determine spin direction.

In regards to their general characteristics, Gatinko Layers are large-size Energy Layer™ with a thick diameter, giving them impressive combat range. Throughout their production cycle, Takara Tomy produced different varieties of parts to enhance the customization experience with Gatinko Layers. This came in the form of "Weight Fused"[Notes 7] Gatinko Chips and Bases, which integrate the Weight component in some fashion.

Also included in this classification of Energy Layers are a specialized type of Gatinko Layer with the Mugen Lock[Notes 8] feature. The mechanism of this special feature prevents the Bey from Bursting by allowing the lock on the Energy Layer to advance indefinitely. This is achieved by allowing the Energy Layer to rotate a continuous 360o and can only be disengaged when the dedicated clutches (located at specific points of the Gatinko Layer) are struck. Once these condition are meant, the crest on the Mugen Lock Gatinko Layer will switch to red, indicating that the Burst feature is engaged and allowing enemy Beys to trigger a Burst.

There were only three Mugen Lock Gatinko Layers models manufactured and, unlike regular Gatinko Layers, these Layers are single-piece Energy Layers which cannot be disassembled. However, Mugen Lock Gatinko Layers can equip an exclusive power-up part called the Big Bang Armor, which is only available in the B-157 Booster Bigbang Genesis.0.Ym booster pack.

Hypersphere Energy Layers

Hasbro© Hypersphere Energy Layers limit the depth of customization to two parts:

  • GT Chip: Determines the spin direction.[1]
  • Energy Layer Base: Affects how the top engages with an opponent when they collide in battle and also helps determine spin direction.[2]

SuperKing Layers

SuperKing Layers are Energy Layers™ specially designed to allow customization. Takara Tomy© brand SuperKing Layers can be customized between three specific parts:

  • SuperKing Chip: Locks components together.
  • Ring: Determines the tools and method of combat.
  • Chassis: Determines spin direction and weight.

Of all the SuperKing Layer components, the Chassis is the most essential. This component acts as the base for the other Layer components and provides the Layer's overall mass. Chassis comes in two varieties: a Single Chassis[Notes 9] frame and a Double Chassis[Notes 10], which features built-in Forge Discs[3] below the Chassis frame.

This revised custom Energy Layer system differs from the previous Gatinko Layer System in design and anatomy. While SuperKing Layer components are incompatible with Gatinko Layer components, they are still compatible with other Beyblade components.

In the TV Series

In the TV series and graphic novels, many of the Energy Layers are designed and independently by Bladers themselves using 3D printing technology and forge welding.

In the Graphic Novels

Similar to the TV series, in the graphic novel series, many of the Energy Layers are designed and produced independently by Bladers themselves using 3D printing technology and forge welding.
