This article is about the Hasbro version. For the Takara Tomy version, see Energy Layer - Buster Xcalibur.

Breaker Xcalius X4 is an Energy Layer released by Hasbro as part of the Burst System as well as the SlingShock System. It debuted in western countries with the release of the SlingShock Starter Pack Breaker Xcalius X4 1' Sword-S.

Description

Hasbro's Breaker Xcalius X4 is a right-spin Attack Type Layer based on Takara Tomy's Buster Xcalibur. It is virtually identical to its Takara Tomy counterpart, with a large sword running down the length of the Layer, the end of which protrudes from the bottom as the Layer's primary point of contact. Unlike previous Xcalius Layers, this sword tip protrudes more, creating high Knockout (KO) and Burst Attack potential. Although the general shape is identical to the Takara Tomy version, there is a reduction in the amount of metal on the Layer. The sword in the center of the Layer is now partially silver painted plastic instead of being fully metal, reducing the Layer's weight by 5 grams. As a result, Hasbro's Breaker Xcalius X4 is lighter than its predecessor, Hasbro's Surge Xcalius X3. In addition, the metal on the sword is closer to the sword tip, making the Layer even more imbalanced.

Breaker Xcalius X4 features a gimmick: the sword can be manually slid out and extend further from the Layer to change into its "Breaker Mode". This further pushes out the metal on the sword outward, increasing the Layer's imbalance. The imbalanced Layer design drains Stamina and can break the banking pattern of the Breaker Xcalius X4 combination. However, the locking mechanism for the gimmick is even weaker than the Takara Tomy version, meaning the "Breaker Mode" can switch back and forth with the "Normal Mode" during battle.

Like most other SlingShock Layers, a Level Chip can be fitted underneath Breaker Xcalius X4 to give it additional weight and balance.

Overall

Hasbro's Breaker Xcalius X4 features all the shortcomings of Takara Tomy's Buster Xcalibur, but weighs even less than its predecessor, Surge Xcalius X3. In addition, its relatively weak slopes means it is prone to Bursting, as Hasbro's rubber Attack Type Drivers have low Burst Resistance as well. As a result of this, Breaker Xcalius X4 lags behind most SwitchStrike Layers such as Legend Spryzen S3 and Surge Xcalius X3.

As such, Hasbro's Breaker Xcalius X4 is recommended for collection purposes only.
