- This article is about the Hasbro version. For the Takara Tomy version, see Energy Layer - Guardian Kerbeus.
Kerbeus K4 is an Energy Layer released by Hasbro as part of the Burst System as well as the SlingShock System. It debuted in western countries with the release of the Blizzard-X Gaianon G4 & Kerbeus K4 Dual Pack.
Hasbro's Kerbeus K4 is a Defense Type Energy Layer that features three dog heads along the perimeter, two from a downward profile and one from a side profile, meant to represent the Layer's namesake, the mythological three-headed hound Cerberus. Despite being based on a God Layer System Energy Layer, Kerbeus K4 is instead part of the SlingShock System rather than the SwitchStrike System, and thus lacks the flexible, soft plastic chains that facilitated the "Bound Defense" gimmick of its Takara Tomy counterpart, Guardian Kerbeus. However, as the effects of this gimmick were negligible, the lack of this gimmick does not create a noticeable change in performance. Furthermore, unlike its Takara Tomy counterpart, Kerbeus K4 has strong Burst Resistance thanks to its tight slopes, negating the high Burst risk caused by Guardian Kerbeus's weak teeth.
As such, Kerbeus K4 excels in Stamina Combinations, capable of defeating other top-tier Stamina and Defense Energy Layers such as Fafnir F3 and Garuda G3. Without the high Burst risk of its Takara Tomy counterpart, Kerbeus K4 boasts some of the greatest Stamina performance of all the Hasbro Energy Layers.
Hasbro's Kerbeus K4 boasts exceptional Stamina and Burst Resistance. While outclassed by Energy Layers released later by Takara Tomy, Kerbeus K4 finds use in formats where stronger Energy Layers are restricted. As such, Hasbro's Kerbeus K4 is a welcome addition if the Blader plans to compete in the WBO's Burst Limited format or a Hasbro-Only format, but is otherwise recommended for collection purposes only.
