Nepstrius N2, known as Nova Neptune (ノヴァネプチューン, Noba Nepuchūn) in Japan, is an Energy Layer released as part of the Burst System as well as the Dual Layer System. It debuted with the release of the B-57 Triple Booster Set on August 6th, 2016. It later debuted in western countries with the release of the Starter Pack Nepstrius N2 Vertical Zephyr.

Description

Nepstrius N2, like its predecessor Nepstrius, is a Balance Type Energy Layer that has an overall round shape. Its design consists of six sloped wave-like blades; three of which are large and are made of clear plastic, and the other three are smaller and are made of colored plastic. Unlike Nepstrius; in which two sideways heads on either side are featured in the center, the center of Nepstrius N2 features two downward profile faces on either side; with one of them wearing a crown, representing the Layer's Takara Tomy namesake; Neptune, the god of the sea in Roman Mythology.

Unlike its Takara Tomy predecessor Neptune, Nepstrius N2 has some recoil due to the shape of its sloped blades. As such, it does not have as much Defense capabilities as Neptune. While it is decent in terms of Stamina, other Layer such as Jormuntor J2/Silver-X Jormuntor J4 and Dark Deathscyther are better options. Furthermore, Nepstrius N2 also has sub-par Attack, making it outclassed and ill-suited for Attack Combinations as well.

For the Takara Tomy release of Nova Neptune, its four teeth further aggravate this issue; three of which are short in length, and only the second-to-last tooth is medium in length. This creates a high Burst risk that can be greatly reduced through the use of Performance Tips with a strong spring such as Zephyr' or Destroy'. Despite the release of these Performance Tips, due to Nova Neptune's weak performance, it is rendered outclassed by its predecessor Neptune.

Overall

Nova Neptune is directly outclassed by its predecessor, and its somewhat poor performance makes it ill-suited for most types of Combinations. However, with the release of Performance Tips with stronger springs, Nova Neptune's issue of weak teeth is solved to a degree. While it is too light to be competitive in the current metagame, it has potential in the Burst Classic Format. However, due to how old Nova Neptune is, it is mostly unavailable. If one prefers to use it, getting the latest version along with a Performance Tip with a strong spring is the best option.

As such, Nova Neptune is recommended for collection purposes only in the Standard Format, but is a welcome addition to bladers of the Burst Classic Format.

Differences in the Hasbro Version

Unlike Takara Tomy's Nova Neptune, Hasbro's Nepstrius N2 has its large sloped blades made of colored plastic instead of clear plastic, creating a somewhat heavier weight than Nova Neptune. Aside from this and the use of softer plastic, Hasbro's Nepstrius N2 is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Nova Neptune; with the same round shape and six-bladed design.

However, what sets it apart from Nova Neptune is that Nepstrius N2's slopes are stronger than Nova Neptune's weak teeth. This makes Nepstrius N2 a better option over Nova Neptune, despite having reduced Stamina due to the softer plastic construction. While it is too light to be competitive in the current metagame, it also has potential in the Burst Classic Format. However, due to how old Nepstrius N2 is, it is mostly unavailable. If one prefers to use it, getting Dark-X Nepstrius N4 is the best option.

As such, Nepstrius N2 is recommended for collection purposes only in the Standard and Hasbro-Only Format, but is a welcome addition for blades of the Burst Classic Format.
