Phantazus P2, known as Psychic Phantom (サイキックファントム, Saikikku Fantomu) in Japan, is an Energy Layer released as part of the Burst System as well as the Dual Layer System. It debuted with the release of the B-65 Beyblade Super Custom Set Speed Ver. on November 12th, 2016. It later debuted in western countries with the release of the Starter Pack Phantazus P2 Polish Edge.

Description

Phantazus P2 is a Stamina Type Energy Layer that's primarily round in shape. Its design consists of four wave-like blades; two of which are made of clear plastic and feature a wisp-like skull or spirit on either side that's seen from a sideways view, and the other two are made of colored plastic and run behind the spirits. The spirits themselves represent the Layer's Takara Tomy namesake; the phantom, a ghost or apparition.

Like Wyvron W2, Horusood H2, Hyrus H2/Poison-X Hyrus H4, and Regulus R3, Phantazus P2 appears to be round at first glance, but upon close inspection is actually square in shape. Each of the corners of this square shape and the wave-like design of each of the blades create points of recoil that make it ill-suited for Stamina Combinations. For the Takara Tomy release of Psychic Phantom, this problem is further exacerbated by the weak teeth it has; which are akin to the teeth of Wild Wyvern, which ends up being the downfall of this Layer. Like Wild Wyvern, its teeth are so short that they are unable to withstand the recoil that the square shape and waved blades create, making Psychic Phantom highly prone to losses by Burst. However, this issue of weak Burst Resistance can be solved through the use of Performance Tips with strong springs such as Zephyr' and Accel'.

Overall

Psychic Phantom suffers from both a high-recoil shape and highly weak teeth, causing it to Burst far too easily in battle, making it unsuitable for competitive use in all formats. If one prefers to use it, pairing it up with a Performance Tip with a strong spring is critical.

As such, unless one prefers to use Psychic Phantom, it is recommended for collection purposes only.

Differences in the Hasbro Version

Aside from having a softer mold of plastic, Hasbro's Phantazus P2 is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Psychic Phantom; with the same primarily round shape and four-bladed design.

However, Phantazus P2 has one major difference from Psychic Phantom; its slopes are above-average in strength, much stronger than Psychic Phantom's crippling weak teeth. As a result, Phantazus P2 is a better option over Psychic Phantom for Stamina and Balance Combinations. While it is too light to be competitive in the current metagame, it has Top-Tier Stamina potential in the Burst Classic Format.

As such, Phantazus P2 is recommended for collection purposes only in the Standard and Hasbro-Only Format, but is a welcome addition for competitive bladers of the Burst Classic Format.
