Spiral Treptune T4, known as Screw Trident (スクリュートライデント, Sukuryū Toraidento) in Japan, is an Energy Layer released as part of the Burst System as well as the God Layer System. It debuted with the release of the BG-08 Random Layer Collection Vol. 8 in December 2017 and was later released as a Booster in Japan on February 17th, 2018. It later debuted in western countries with the release of the Lava-X Anubion A4 & Spiral Treptune T4 Dual Pack.

Description

Spiral Treptune T4 is a Stamina Type Energy Layer with an overall triangular shape and trident motifs, meant to represent its Japanese namesake; Trishula, a three pronged spear in Hinduism. Like its predecessor Treptune, Spiral Treptune T4 features three large blades to create an aforementioned overall triangular shape. As part of the God Layer System, Screw Trident features a gimmick; the center and blades of the Layer are connected by rubber to create “Bound Defense”, akin to the Jerk Disc.

In theory, the rubber would allow the blades to shift upon impact and absorb the shock of oncoming attacks in order to reduce recoil; recoil that would otherwise result in a Burst. In practice however, due to how hard the rubber is, the gimmick fails to function. This issue is further exacerbated by the triangular shape of the Layer, which creates high recoil and increases the risk of Bursts, which the four medium teeth of the Takara Tomy release are unable to compensate for.

However, despite the high Burst risk, Screw Trident performs well in Pure Stamina Combinations, as its weight distribution creates spin times near or equal to Deep Chaos, albeit without Destabilization potential.

Overall

Despite the recoil, ineffective gimmick and high Burst risk, Screw Trident’s high Stamina makes for an excellent alternative to Deep Chaos if the latter is unavailable.

As such, Screw Trident is a must have for bladers if one does not have Deep Chaos and a welcome addition to a blader's collection if one does.

Differences in the Hasbro Version

Unlike Takara Tomy's Screw Trident, Hasbro's Spiral Treptune T4 has the rubber gimmick removed, making the Layer all plastic, which makes it slightly lighter than Screw Trident. While this may imply that a Spiral Treptune T4 Combination is easy to Burst or KO, its slopes are much stronger than the teeth of Screw Trident, giving Spiral Treptune T4 higher Burst Resistance, making it a safer choice for Stamina Combinations. Despite having better Burst Resistance than Screw Trident, Spiral Treptune T4 is outclassed Stamina wise by Layers such as Spryzen Requiem S3 and Kerbeus K4, preventing Spiral Treptune T4 from being a must-have.

As such, Spiral Treptune T4 is recommended for collection purposes only.
