Spryzen Requiem S3, known as Spriggan Requiem (スプリガンレクイエム, Supurigan Rekuiemu) in Japan, is an Energy Layer released as part of the Burst System as well as the God Layer System. It debuted with the release of the B-100 Starter Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta on December 28th, 2017. It later debuted in western countries with the release of the SwitchStrike Starter Pack Spryzen Requiem S3 0 Zeta.

Description

Spryzen Requiem S3, like its predecessor Legend Spryzen S3, is a Balance Type Energy Layer that's round in shape. Its design consists of an overall round perimeter with small indents akin to Jormuntor J2/Silver-X Jormuntor J4, a large double-sided axe that goes from the center to the perimeter, matching the weapon the Layer's beast wields, and two beast-like heads on either side that are depicted from a sideways profile and feature flame-like designs on them, representing the Layer's Takara Tomy namesake; the Spriggan, a legendary beast of Cornish Faery Lore. As a part of the SwitchStrike/God Layer System, Spryzen Requiem S3 features three gimmicks for Spin Equalization, inclusion of metal, and Dual-Spin capabilities; in this case, the flame-like designs are made of rubber, the metal is in the form of an affixed Metal God Chip, and the Takara Tomy release of Spriggan Requiem features two sets of teeth for "Right-Spin Mode" and "Left-Spin Mode", like its predecessor Legend Spriggan.

Due to the high friction of the Layer's rubber, Spryzen Requiem S3 is capable of Spin Equalization with an Opposite-Spin opponent, allowing a Spryzen Requiem S3 Combination to potentially Out Spin its opponent depending on the Performance Tip, Forge Disc and/or Disc Frame used. While the effect is noticeably less than that of Fafnir F3 and its successor Geist Fafnir; due to there being only two contact points of rubber, it is still comparable. However, like the aforementioned Layers, when against an opponent with the same spin direction of Spryzen Requiem S3, it is unable to Spin Equalize; in this case, either the double-sided axe or the Layer's beast-like heads will make contact with the opponent, and the friction of the rubber acts as brakes; stopping the Layer of the opponent and causing them to Burst so long as they have less Burst Resistance. However if the Spryzen Requiem S3 Combination has less Burst resistance against a Same or Opposite-Spin opponent, the friction of the rubber can cause a Spryzen Requiem S3 Combination to Burst or Self-Burst.

Due to the inclusion of metal, Spryzen Requiem S3's weight, Stamina, and inertia are increased, and the inertia also helps resist teeth skipping; a factor that compliments Spriggan Requiem's strong teeth. Furthermore, Spryzen Requiem S3's inertia, Stamina, and Burst Resistance is further bolstered by the high Outward Weight Distribution created by the Layer's design. These factors make Spryzen Requiem S3 a Top-Tier Layer for Stamina and Defense Combinations.

Due to the Dual-Spin gimmick, recoil between the opponent and Spryzen Requiem S3 can be increased or reduced depending on the Layer and opponent's spin direction. While the asymmetrical design may imply different performance depending on the Layer's spin direction, Spryzen Requiem S3's round design makes little to no discernible difference between Right-Spin Mode and Left-Spin Mode. Because of this, it is recommended to set the Layer to spin opposite to the opponent to maximize Defense and Stamina potential, as there is too little recoil for Attack potential.

Use in Defense/Stamina Spin Equalization Combinations

Spriggan Requiem can be put to use in the Defense/Stamina Spin Equalization Combination Spriggan Requiem 0/2/4/5/7/10 Cross/Glaive Atomic/Orbit/Destroy. Spriggan Requiem's Stamina and KO resistance is bolstered by the Stamina and weight of the 0/2/4/5/7/10 Disc and the Stamina of the Atomic/Orbit/Destroy Tip while the heavy weight and teeth of the Layer and the free-spinning and plastic nature of the Tip compensates for the increased Burst risk of using heavy Discs. When spinning opposite to the opponent, the rubber of Spriggan Requiem and the low friction of the Atomic/Orbit/Destroy Tip allows for high amounts of Spin Equalization while the Life After Death of Cross/Glaive and Atomic/Destroy allows the Combination to Out Spin its opponent.

Overall

Due to Spriggan Requiem's round shape, heavy weight, Spin Equalization potential, strong teeth and Dual-Spin nature, this Layer has become a Top-Tier choice for Defense and Stamina Combinations, outclassing Alter Chronos and Drain Fafnir and to the point of being banned in tournament play.

While now legal for tournament play, Spriggan Requiem is still a must have for competitive bladers. However, due to the teeth wear, it is recommended to have multiple copies of this Layer to replace ones that have worn down.

Differences in the Hasbro Version

Unlike Spriggan Requiem, Hasbro's Spryzen Requiem S3 has its affixed Metal God Chip is made thinner in order to facilitate the Layer's QR Code for the Beyblade Burst App, and as a result, creates a negligibly lighter weight, as well as the metal itself being unpainted. Aside from this, Hasbro's Spryzen Requiem S3 is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Spriggan Requiem; with the same round, yet asymmetrical design, Dual-Spin and Spin Equalization gimmick. There are also two variations of Spryzen Requiem S3:

The first variant, introduced in the Spryzen Requiem S3 0 Zeta Starter Pack, has an identical color scheme to Spriggan Requiem, and has strong slopes of above-average strength; similar or identical to the strength of Spriggan Requiem's teeth. Due to the use of slopes, Spryzen Requiem S3 does not wear down. This, overall, makes it a safer option over Spriggan Requiem; in terms of having a strong locking mechanism that can last through heavy use. It is also a great alternative if Balkesh B3 or Kerbeus K4 are unavailable.

The second variant, introduced in the Ultimate Tournament Collection, has a silver, red and gold color scheme, and has weak slopes of below-average strength; which makes it prone to losses by Burst. As such, getting the Starter Pack variant is the best option.

As such, while now legal for tournament play, Spryzen Requiem S3 is not a must-have but is instead a welcome addition in the Standard Format, but is a must-have for competitive bladers of the Hasbro-Only Format.
