This article is about the Takara Tomy version. For the Hasbro version, see Energy Layer - Valtryek.

Valkyrie (ヴァルキリー, Varukirī) is an Energy Layer released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System. It debuted in Japan in the DX Starter B-01 Valkyrie Wing Accel on July 18th, 2015 and has been released multiple times since then. It was the first Energy Layer ever released.

Description

The motif is of the goddess of battle, Valkyrie. A right-spin Attack Type Layer that bursts the opponent by launching a powerful attack with its three large blades.
— Official Description

Takara Tomy's Valkyrie features a three-winged design, with each wing sporting a set of two protruding contact points. These consist of a larger contact point and a smaller kite-shaped contact point. The centre of the Layer depicts an armored face, with feathers protruding off of the helmet, and a V-shape between them to represent this Layer's namesake: valkyries, Odin's handmaidens in Norse mythology.

Due to its aggressive shape and the angles of the points of contact, Valkyrie was one of the best Layers for Attack combinations, excelling in both Burst and Knockout (KO) Attack. Valkyrie features four Locks (teeth) of tall length which allow it to withstand its own recoil, however, like other pre-Xcalibur Layers, the teeth of Valkyrie quickly wear down with use and the Layer must be replaced after heavy use.

At its release, Takara Tomy's Valkyrie was one of the best Layers for Attack combinations and remained as the best Attack Layer until the release of Lost Longinus and the God Layer System, where Valkyrie then became too light to remain competitive.

Use in Attack Combinations

Valkyrie can be put to use in the Attack combination Valkyrie Gravity Xtreme'. Valkyrie's strong Burst and Knockout Attack potential is bolstered by Gravity's weight and the speed of Xtreme', while Gravity's greater Outward Weight Distribution (OWD) increases the speed of Xtreme'. Valkyrie's unworn teeth are capable of withstanding the increased Burst risk of heavy Discs and high friction Drivers.

Overall

Single Layers such as Takara Tomy's Valkyrie are outclassed in the format by much heavier Dynamite Battle Layers.

As such, Valkyrie is not recommended for the WBO's Burst format.

As such, Valkyrie is not recommended for the WBO's Burst GT format.

As such, Valkyrie is not recommended for the WBO's Burst Limited format.

As was the case during its peak, Valkyrie is an excellent Layer choice for Attack combinations. It can be used with rubber Attack Drivers such as Xtreme' to create combinations with excellent Burst and Knockout (KO) Attack potential.

As such, Valkyrie is a must-have for the WBO's Burst Classic format.
