Vise Leopard (ヴァイスレオパルド, Vuaisu Reoparudo) is an Energy Layer released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Cho-Z Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-118 Random Booster Vol. 11 Vise Leopard.12L.Ds on July 14th, 2018.
Description
Takara Tomy's Vise Leopard is a symmetrical Attack Type Energy Layer that features a leopard head on either side, meant to represent the Layer's namesake; the Leopard, each head having a large mouth lined with red "teeth". As part of the Cho-Z Layer System, Vise Leopard features metal in its design, in this case; the leopard heads are made of metal. The inclusion of metal makes Vise Leopard heavier than most God Layers. Vise Leopard also features a gimmick; the top half of the Layer is spring-loaded for it to "bite" onto the opponent.
In theory, the opponent's Layer would slip into the gap in the perimeter of Vise Leopard and become caught on the red "teeth", which are made of rubberized plastic, stopping the opponent's Layer and creating Burst Attack potential. In practice, the gap is too small for most opposing Layers to be caught in, and the teeth are too small to grip onto the opposing Layer. Furthermore, the spring used for the gimmick is too strong to move during impact to "bite" onto the caught opposing Layer.
As such, Vise Leopard features poor recoil, making it ill-suited for Attack Combinations. However, Vise Leopard's three strong teeth and fairly round shape of the Layer can create moderate Defense potential.
Overall
While fairly heavy, Takara Tomy's Vise Leopard features too little recoil and a non-functioning gimmick, making it ill-suited for Attack Combinations. While the Layer exhibits Defense Potential from its strong teeth and shape, it remains heavily outclassed by Archer Hercules and Revive Phoenix.
As such, Takara Tomy's Vise Leopard is recommended for collection purposes only.
