In theory, the free-spinning layer will parry oncoming hits by moving with the opponent's Layer and reduce recoil. In practice, the gimmick works as intended, drastically increasing '''Wyvron W3'''<nowiki/>'s Burst and KO resistance. However, '''Wyvron W3''' has two weaknesses; the first is the Layer's teeth; '''Tornado Wyvern''' has four short teeth on the Takara Tomy release which the free-spinning layer is meant meant to compensate for. However, the size of the Layer and the large gaps between each of the blades means that the opponent is likely to contact with the gaps of the top layer and Burst the '''Wyvron W3''' Combination. The second weakness is the poor Stamina of the Layer, which is caused by '''Wyvron W3'''<nowiki/>'s weight distribution along with the friction the free spinning ring creates with the rest of the Layer. This creates poor spin times compared to other Layers such as [[Energy Layer - Cognite C3|Alter Chronos]].</onlyinclude>

Wyvron W3, known as Tornado Wyvern (トルネードワイバーン, Torunēdo Waibān) in Japan, is a Defense Type Energy Layer that's a part of the Burst System as well as the God Layer System. It debuted with the release of the B-80 Random Booster Vol. 6 Tornado Wyvern.4G.At on April 29th, 2017 and later debuted in western countries with the release of the SwitchStrike Starter Pack Wyvron W3 4Glaive Atomic.

Description

Wyvron W3 is a Defense Type Layer that features an eight bladed top layer, akin to its first predecessor Wyvron, and an eight bladed bottom layer made of translucent plastic. Near the center of the Layer is the sideways face of a dragon, meant to represent the Layer's Japanese namesake; the two-legged dragon known as the Wyvern. As part of the SwitchStrike/God Layer System, Wyvron W3 features a gimmick; the translucent bottom layer is free-spinning.

In theory, the free-spinning layer will parry oncoming hits by moving with the opponent's Layer and reduce recoil. In practice, the gimmick works as intended, drastically increasing Wyvron W3's Burst and KO resistance. However, Wyvron W3 has two weaknesses; the first is the Layer's teeth; Tornado Wyvern has four short teeth on the Takara Tomy release which the free-spinning layer is meant meant to compensate for. However, the size of the Layer and the large gaps between each of the blades means that the opponent is likely to contact with the gaps of the top layer and Burst the Wyvron W3 Combination. The second weakness is the poor Stamina of the Layer, which is caused by Wyvron W3's weight distribution along with the friction the free spinning ring creates with the rest of the Layer. This creates low Stamina and low spin times compared to other Layers such as Alter Chronos.

Overall

Despite the potential Defense within the gimmick, the large gaps in the free-spinning layer, weak teeth and low Stamina of Tornado Wyvern makes it outclassed by other Layers such as Alter Chronos and Drain Fafnir.

As such, Tornado Wyvern is recommended for collection purposes only.

Differences in the Hasbro Version

Hasbro's Wyvron W3 is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Tornado Wyvern with the gimmick intact, weak slopes of nearly identical strength to Tornado Wyvern's teeth and has the same poor Stamina as its Takara Tomy counterpart. Due to the release of heavier SwitchStrike Energy Layers such as Luinor L3, and Spryzen Requiem S3, Wyvron W3 has become outclassed.

As such, Wyvron W3 is also recommended for collection purposes only.
