Fafnir F3 is an Energy Layer released by Hasbro as part of the Burst System as well as the SwitchStrike System. It debuted in western countries with the release of the SwitchStrike Starter Pack Fafnir F3 8 Nothing.
Description
Hasbro's Fafnir F3 is a round left-spin Stamina Type Layer based on Takara Tomy's Drain Fafnir God Layer. Fafnir F3 is nearly identical to Drain Fafnir, with the only visual difference being the God Chip is now irremovable. Like Drain Fafnir, Fafnir F3 features three dragon heads meant to represent this Layer's namesake: Fafnir, a dragon from Norse mythology. These dragon heads have clear plastic "horns" and rubber "F"s that sticks out slightly at two points along the perimeter. Three claws grasp the center God Chip. These molding details give Fafnir F3 a rough perimeter and a high Outward Weight Distribution (OWD) by concentrating the weight along the perimeter. As part of the SwitchStrike System, Fafnir F3 features a gimmick: the rubber "F"s aid in the ability to Spin-Equalize with a right-spin opponent. Compared to Drain Fafnir, Fafnir F3 does not Spin-Equalize as well, as the rubber "F"s are harder and thus have less friction. However, the effect is still there and is strong enough to win by the same Spin-Equalization strategy.
Overall
Although once a top pick for Stamina Combinations, Hasbro's Fafnir F3 has since been outclassed by Takara Tomy's releases in the Cho-Z Layer System and onward.
As such, Hasbro's Fafnir F3 is recommended for collection purposes only.
Hasbro's Fafnir F3 is a versatile left-spin Layer with high potential in Spin-Equalization Balance Combinations. While it may struggle against Layers such as Caynox C3, Fafnir F3's effectiveness against Attack Layers makes it a top-tier Layer for Defense and Stamina Combinations.
As such, Hasbro's Fafnir F3 is a must have for competitive bladers.
