This article is about Ratchet. For Hasbro's HyperSphere Core Disc, see Forge Disc - Ratchet (Hasbro).

Ratchet (ラチェット, Rachetto) is a Forge Disc released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Gatinko Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-139 Starter, Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen, on April 27th, 2019. It later debuted in western countries as Ratchet-P with the release of Hasbro's Evo Elite Champions Pro Set.

Description

A Disc that can absorb an opponent's attack with its guard on its outer circumference, which rotates freely when pushed towards the right and locks its position when pushed towards the left.
— Official Description

Ratchet is a round Forge Disc that consists of a metal core and plastic piece. The plastic piece locks in place against a Right-Spin opponent and spins freely against a Left-Spin opponent, akin to the Tornado Wyvern Energy Layer, to theoretically help with Spin-Equalization and shock absorption. However, in practice, the plastic piece has little to no effect as it is too small to come into any contact unless Disc-to-Layer contact occurs.

Its gimmick is similar to that of Takara Tomy's Hurricane, but it can only spin in one direction, unlike Hurricane. In addition, Ratchet has better weight distribution than Hurricane, allowing it to find more use.

Ratchet finds the most use in Spin-Equalization Combinations in opposite spin matchups, as it hangs rather low. This allows Performance Tips such as Bearing', Drift, and Mobius to be used to great effect with Ratchet, as the lower center of gravity means the Performance Tips will be able to tilt longer and Spin-Equalize more effectively. However, the low-hanging nature of Ratchet renders it only useful in opposite spin matchups, as in same spin matchups, Ratchet has the potential to scrape the stadium floor. In a same spin matchup, Takara Tomy's Sting is recommended instead.

Overall

While not the heaviest Forge Disc released in the Gatinko Layer System, Takara Tomy's Ratchet can find use in opposite spin matchups and be used in Spin-Equalization Combinations to great effect. However, Ratchet is too light to remain competitive in the current metagame, as it has subsequently been outclassed by later releases in the Superking Layer System and onward.

As such, Ratchet is recommended for collection purposes only.

Ratchet is not legal in the WBO's Burst Limited Format.
