This article is about the Takara Tomy and Pro Series Chip. For Hasbro's HyperSphere Chip, see GT Chip - Fafnir F5.

Fafnir (ファブニル, Fabunīru) is a Gatinko Chip released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Gatinko Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-139 Starter, Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen, on April 27th, 2019. It later debuted in western countries with the release of Hasbro's Evo Elite Champions Pro Set.

Description

The motif is of the golden dragon, Fafnir. A left-spin Gatinko Chip with four standard locks.
— Official Description

Fafnir depicts the two dragons in the form of Fafnir, son of the dwarf king Hreidmar. The two dragons' claws grip the center hole of the Gatinko Chip. Fafnir has a standard weight for Gatinko Chips, and average Burst Resistance. Its average Burst Resistance is due to its four standard locks.

Hasbro's Fafnir is virtually unchanged from Takara Tomy's Fafnir, but manufactured with weaker materials.

Overall

Due to its average Burst Resistance, Fafnir is outclassed by other left-spin Gatinko Chips with higher Burst Resistance. In addition, Gatinko Layer System Energy Layers are too light to be competitive in the current metagame.

As such, Fafnir is recommended for collection purposes only.

Due to its average Burst Resistance, Fafnir is outclassed by the Longinus Gatinko Chip. In addition, the only legal left-spin Layer Base in the format is Erase, which is not particularly competitive.

As such, Fafnir is recommended for collection purposes only.

Fafnir is not legal in the WBO's Burst Classic Format.

As such, Fafnir is recommended for collection purposes only.
