Greatest Armor is a Gravity Ring released by Hasbro as part of the Burst System as well as the QuadDrive System. It debuted in western countries with the release of the QuadDrive Starter Pack, Glory Regnar R7 Over-Q Just-Q+Xtend+-Greatest Armor.
Description
Hasbro's Greatest Armor is a Gravity Ring based on the "Armor" portion of Takara Tomy's Greatest Raphael Layer. As such, the Greatest Armor is intended to be used together with Hasbro's Glory QD Blade. Unlike Greatest Raphael, which is a non-customizable Layer with a non-removable "Greatest Armor", Hasbro's Greatest Armor can be used to switch between Glory's Apex and Core Modes. In Core Mode, the Greatest Armor fills in gaps on the underside of Glory. In Apex Mode, the Greatest Armor thickens the top of the Glory, in exchange for a hollow underside.
Rulings
The legal usage of the Greatest Armor has been ambiguous since its release. Although clearly designed solely to fit flush on the Glory QD Blade, the Greatest Armor can be used in Core Mode on some Blades, by sandwiching it between the underside of the Blade and the top of a QD/QS Disc. As Hasbro has never indicated that the Greatest Armor can or cannot be used with other Blades, the use of the Greatest Armor with other Blades is considered legal in World Beyblade Organization (WBO) tournaments. This is only relevant in the WBO's Burst Limited format, where QD/QS Blades such as Salvage and Xiphoid are considered to be one of the strongest Attack Type Layers in the format. These Blades cannot handle their own recoil, as they have low Burst Resistance and hollow undersides, and are thus prone to self-Bursting. However, the Greatest Armor mitigates both of these issues, as it provides additional weight and stability by sitting under the Blades. Due to how the Greatest Armor fits between the Blade and the Disc, the Disc pushes against the Greatest Armor, which in turn pushes against the Blade, increasing Burst Resistance to near part damage. This effect is most prominent on QD/QS Discs with thick topsides, such as Nexus-Q and Quacchu-Q.
Overall
The Glory QD Blade and Greatest Armor Gravity Ring are heavily outclassed by releases from Takara Tomy in the Cho-Z Layer System and onward.
As such, Hasbro's Greatest Armor is recommended for collection purposes only.
