Hikaru Hasama (波佐間ヒカル, Hasama Hikaru) is a recurring character that appears in the Metal Saga, making her debut in Beyblade: Metal Fusion as a member of the main cast. She is a serious, calm and helpful Blader who fights with her Beyblade, Wind Aquario 100HF/S. Beginning in Beyblade: Metal Masters she becomes Ryo Hagane's assistant at the WBBA.
Appearance
Hikaru has sky-blue hair styled in a messy bob. Her eyes are indigo. She wears a red jacket over a white chest plate and dark blue t-shirt which is slightly torn at the bottom, tan shorts, brown boots and a black choker. Her fingerless gloves are white and go up to her wrists. Her belt appears to criss-cross over her shorts, and she keeps her Beyblade on her right hip.
After her defeat by Ryuga, she becomes Ryo Hagane's assistant and wears a dark blue suit, consisting of a white shirt with yellow buttons running down her chest. Over the shirt she wears a dark blue jacket with white sleeve hems. Matching to the jacket she wears a dark blue skirt. She also wears black high heels. On her left wrist she wears a red ribbon.
Personality
Hikaru is introduced as a cold and indifferent Blader, due to her experiences as a child. When she was younger, she was beaten and ridiculed by other Bladers when she lost, causing her to cry. Her ill mother convinced Hikaru to persevere, and to carry on her legacy; Hikaru's mother had dreamed of becoming a strong Blader.
Taking these words to heart, Hikaru vows to find strong opponents and get better and better in order to fulfill her mother's wishes. She was an antagonist at first because Benkei Hanawa told her to defeat Gingka which she did to Kenta breaking his confidence. She is not lacking a sense of fun and friendship though - these aspects resurface as the plot goes on.
After her defeat at the hands of Ryuga, Hikaru seems to have been so deeply traumatized by the event that she is unable to continue Beybattling. This is evident in her reaction in episode 73 when she is nearly struck by Tsubasa's attack while his dark side takes over and when she sees Ryuga appear at the finals of Big Bang Bladers to battle Jack. While she is also shown to be able to fight a beybattle in necessity, Hikaru now prefers to work with the WBBA in order to ensure everyone can have fun Beyblading and nobody will have to make experiences like she did in her childhood.
She becomes a lot gentler over time, but always retains her professional attitude, making her a valuable support to the forgetful and impulsive Ryo.
History
She first appears trying to enter Metal Bey City only to be stopped by Benkei Hanawa and the Face Hunters. Much to their shock, she defeats them all with ease, expressing her desire to challenge strong bladers. Benkei takes advantage of this and goads her into seeking out Gingka Hagane. Curious, Hikaru searches the city for him. As she comes close to finding her target, she is intercepted by Kenta, who pretends to be Gingka and challenges her. Hikaru bests Kenta with little difficulty and losing interest, but he asks for a rematch, offering up his Bey Points to keep her interested. Hikaru agrees and wins again, and repeatedly defeats Kenta until he runs out of points to bet.
Convinced the city has no other worthy opponents and learning that Kenta was impersonating Gingka, Hikaru prepares to leave. However, she is stopped by Kenta, who challenges her as himself. She agrees, and their first match ends in a draw. Intrigued by his growth, Hikaru battles him again but loses once Kenta learns to unleash his Special Move. Satisfied, she acknowledges Kenta before leaving. Hikaru stays in Metal Bey City to search for more opponents and runs into Gingka. Still wanting to experience his strength, she battles him and loses. She gets frustrated at her defeat, but Gingka encourages her to focus more on having fun battling, something she takes to heart.
Hikaru is next seen in the Survival Battle, where she strikes out on her own and battles across the island. She runs into Kyoya and battles him, but the two are interrupted by others bladers. The two team up to take out the intruders, then decide to finish their match later and part ways. Her next opponent is Yu, who challenges her, Benkei, and Kenta to a three-on-one and defeats them all.
After Battle Bladers is announced, Hikaru takes part in a battel royal with Gingka and his friends before leaving to seek out the points required to enter the tournament. Through a series of wins and losses, Hikaru earns enough points to enter the Battle Bladers main tournament. Unfortunately, her opponent in the opening round is Ryuga. When the time for her battle arrives, her resolve falters when she senses Ryuga's overwhelming power. She still goes through with the battle, and uses Infinite Assault, but Ryuga uses his Special Move, blowing her and Aquario away along with a chunk of the arena. With her power drained by LDrago, Hikaru remains in a comatose state for the rest of Battle Bladers, but her spirit joins those of the other Bladers defeated by Ryuga in assisting Gingka during the final battle. After L-Drago is defeated, her stolen power is returned, and she recovers.
However, her devastating loss to Ryuga left her traumatized, so she retires from Beyblade. She then becomes the assistant to Gingka's father Ryo, the new Director of the WBBA, deciding to continue supporting the sport in a different way.
Beyblades
- Wind Aquario 100HF/S: Hikaru's Bey in the anime and manga.
- Storm Aquario 100HF/S: Hikaru's Bey in the North American and European releases of the Beyblade: Metal Fusion - Battle Fortress and Beyblade: Metal Fusion video games. Although the Wind Light Wheel is available in these games, the change was likely done to align with the Hasbro toyline in these regions.
Special Moves
- Infinite Assault: This move tricks the opponent into thinking there are many Wind Aquarios, and then attacks the opponent with the real one. A huge wave also smashes on the opponent. When used, it also changes the mode of HF/S to create the illusion of several Wind Aquarios.
Gingka was able to see through this move by using the sunlight's reflection to find the actual Wind Aquario.
Beybattles
Although Hikaru had a great start, surprising and defeating the Face Hunters and Kenta. Though stronger than secondary character with generic beys, she lost more often than she won. However, she still managed to qualify for Battle Bladers, placing her among the best in Japan. After her loss to Ryuga, though, she chose to end her blader career.
