Nightmare Longinus Planet (ナイトメアロンギヌス・プラネット, Naitomea Ronginusu Puranetto) is a Stamina Type Beyblade released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the God Layer System. It was released in Japan on July 14th, 2018 for 993円 as part of Random Booster Vol. 11 Vise Leopard.12L.Ds.

Energy Layer - Nightmare Longinus[]

Main article: Energy Layer - Nightmare Longinus
A left-spin Attack Type God Layer that has a special dragon-shaped disc built into the layer and can give a heavy and thick attack to the opponent.
— Official Description

Takara Tomy's Nightmare Longinus is a wide left-spin Attack Type Layer. The Layer features four metal dragon heads, akin to its predecessor's two. Two of the dragon heads surround the center and two follow along the Layer's perimeter. The snouts of the dragons are molded into the shape of spear heads which are meant to represent the Layer's namesake, the Lance of Longinus from Christian folklore. The primary points of contact are two large wings that protrude from either side of the relatively round perimeter, creating high recoil akin to an elliptical design.

As part of the God Layer System, Nightmare Longinus features two gimmicks: the first is the dragon heads are made of metal, and the second is that the Layer has a Disc integrated into the Layer.

The heavy weight of the metal dragon heads generates high inertia which increases the Layer's Knock-Out and Burst potential, to prevent breaking the opponent's Layer however, contact with the dragon heads is prevented by the wide plastic base. Due to the left-spin nature of Nightmare Longinus, it and a Right-Spin opponent's Layer will spin together like gears if they are of similar spin speed which heavily reduces recoil and rate of Bursts. However, the high recoil shape still creates strong Knock-Out potential in Opposite-Spin matches. It also allows for some degree of Spin-Equalization in Opposite-Spin matches, however not to the degree of Drain Fafnir. Nightmare Longinus features only two teeth of average length, while this may imply poor Burst Resistance, the heavy weight of the Layer compensates for this.

Nightmare Longinus' integrated Disc is comprised of a plastic base and the perimeter dragon heads that moves independently from the rest of the Layer. This combination makes Nightmare Longinus heavier than most Layer and Disc Combinations. Because of the built in Disc, Nightmare Longinus is incompatible with Discs as a whole, however the plastic base features notches that allows Disc Frames to be attached.

The perimeter dragon heads function as the prongs of normal Discs so they move behind the wings as the combination grows closer to Bursting, creating an effect akin to the Xcalibur line of Layers with their stock Discs; the closer to Bursting, the more weight is added to the points of contact creating stronger attacks.

Performance Tip - Planet[]

Main article: Performance Tip - Planet

Planet features a ball shaped tip made of metal, akin to Metal Fight Beyblade's Metal Ball Performance Tip, which rotates freely, akin to Orbit, and with two upward angled tracks which also contain metal balls, akin to Metal Fight Beyblade's GB145 Track.

Like its predecessor Weight, the metal tip is meant to decrease friction with the stadium floor and provide Stability and Knock-Out Resistance by lowering the center of balance with its weight while the free spinning nature of the ball is meant to further improve Stamina. The two metal balls in the tracks are meant to move outwards due to Centrifugal Force and increase Stamina and Stability with the greater Outward Weight Distribution (OWD) when spin velocity is high. When spin velocity is low, the angled tracks bring the balls closer to the center to increase Centralized Weight Distribution (CWD) and spin speed.

In practice however, the use of circular tracks instead of straight tracks means that the metal balls will shift to one side and throw the Beyblade off balance which drains Stamina. Furthermore, the free spinning nature of the primary ball does little to improve upon what Weight can accomplish. Finally, the shallow angle of the tracks and the short distance traveled means that there is no discernible change in weight distribution.

While Planet's sheer weight can improve Knock-Out Resistance, it's mitigated by the low friction of metal and rarity of Knock-Outs in the Burst metagame.
