Odax O2 Vertical Claw is a Stamina Type Beyblade released as part of the Burst System as well as the Dual Layer System. It was released in western countries as a part of the Surtr S2 & Odax O2 Dual Pack for USD$14.99 in the United States and AUD$27.99 in Australia.
Energy Layer - Odax O2
Main article: Energy Layer - Odax O2
Odax O2, unlike its predecessor Odax, is an Attack Type Energy Layer that’s thick and angular in shape. Its design consists of a colored blade molded into the shape of a sword on either side, matching the weapon the Layer’s spirit wields; a large sword, two blades on either side that are made of both clear and colored plastic that run behind the sword-like blades, and two orb-like designs on either side that are also made of clear plastic and have a small protrusion on them. Surrounding the center of the Layer are two sideways armored heads on either side, with one of their eyes colored red, representing the Layer’s Takara Tomy namesake; Odin, father of Thor in Norse mythology.
Unlike Odax, Odax O2’s more aggressive design greatly resembles the Samurai Upper Attack Ring from the Hard Metal System (HMS), which at its time, was a Top-Tier Attack Ring. While the resemblance may imply high Attack potential, in practice, Odax O2’s overall shape ends up reducing some beneficial recoil. While this may imply that it is ill-suited for Attack Combinations, the aforementioned protrusions on the Layer’s orb-like designs imply high Burst Attack, as the protrusions can catch onto the protrusions of the opponent’s Layer and thus create enough recoil to Burst them. For Smash Attack, the blunt designs of the Layer’s sword-like blades can create enough recoil to potentially KO the opponent. However, while the Layer’s design does make it great for Attack Combinations, it is ill-suited for Defense and Stamina Combinations, as the recoil created by the Layer’s aggressive shape increases the risk of Bursting.
For the Takara Tomy release of Obelisk Odin, it features three teeth of tall length, allowing it to withstand its own recoil. Furthermore, when paired up with rubber-based Drivers such as Xtreme or Jolt, the Layer's tall teeth can compensate for the Performance Tip's resistance to the Layer’s spin.
Forge Disc - Vertical
Main article: Forge Disc - Vertical
Vertical is shaped somewhat like an upside-down funnel, similarly its predecessor Armed. However, unlike Armed, which has a more gradual and rounded slope, Vertical’s slope begins at a sharper angle and continues downward in a straight line. Vertical also sports a jagged, line-like design, which forms the outline for several holes on the disc’s exterior and eight protrusions on its underside. Despite resembling Armed in terms of shape, Vertical does not offer the same resistance to Bursting that Armed is notable for, while also possessing less Stamina than Top-Tier Forge Discs such as Spread and Gravity.
Performance Tip - Claw
Main article: Performance Tip - Claw
Claw features a low angled cone tip akin to Survive, albeit with a smaller diameter, with four free-moving "claws" along the sides of the Tip, akin to Metal Fight Beyblade's C145 Track. When spinning, the centrifugal force will force the claws up and outwards to in theory increase Outward Weight Distribution and in turn increase Stamina. In practice however, such an effect is negligible and does little to increase Stamina potential. Furthermore, when spin speed drops and the claws fall back down they scrape against the stadium floor and reduce procession time, making Claw outclassed by Survive for Stamina. However, the claws grant Claw decent KO resistance as they will scrape against the stadium floor if a Claw Combination is struck and resist KOs at the cost of Stamina, akin to the tabs of Defense. Furthermore, the small point of contact creates low friction with the stadium floor and increases Burst resistance.
. This combo exploits potential for Odax O2 being used in Attack, Defense, Stamina and Balance Type Combinations.
