This article is about Metal Accel. For its normal counterpart, see Performance Tip - Accel.

Metal Accel (メタルアクセル, Metaru Akuseru) is a Performance Tip released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Superking Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-178 Random Booster Vol. 24 on February 27th, 2021. It later debuted in western countries with the release of Hasbro's Triple Threat Collection.

Description

Metal Accel features a plastic flat tip with a small diameter and sits at the standard height. It is the Metal Lock Driver version of the Accel Performance Tip, featuring a Metal Lock and a stronger spring, increasing weight and Burst Resistance. The Metal Lock has shorter tabs than standard and Dash Locks, resulting in lower Burst Resistance, despite the stronger spring. There is a mold variation of Metal Accel: initial releases of Metal Accel have the original Metal Lock design, which can damage a Layer's teeth. All subsequent reprints of Metal Lock Drivers from October 2021 onward feature a running change that shortens the tabs, reducing Burst Resistance but also the likelihood of causing damage to a Layer.

Due to the surface area, Metal Accel will create an aggressive, and if launched at an angle, somewhat easily controllable movement pattern. In terms of speed, Metal Accel is faster than Blow but is slower than Xtreme, capable of reaching and stalling on the Tornado Ridge. Due to the plastic construction, Metal Accel is an excellent choice for both Mobile Stamina and Attack/Stamina Balance Combinations. Furthermore, the solid construction also ensures that Metal Accel will not wear out like other Drivers such as Xtreme nor be damaged like Zephyr.

However, Metal Accel's plastic tip is also a weakness as Attack Combinations using Metal Accel can lose their Banking Pattern somewhat easily, especially if the Combinations are unbalanced. Furthermore, the low friction means that Metal Accel is liable to Self-Knock-Outs.

Overall

Like its normal counterpart, Metal Accel is outclassed by rubber Attack Drivers such as Xtreme. Furthermore, due to the Metal Lock, it can damage a Layer's teeth.

As such, Metal Accel is recommended for collection purposes only.
