- This article is about Metal Bearing Drift. For its normal counterpart, see Performance Tip - Bearing Drift.
Metal Bearing Drift (メタルベアリングドリフト, Metaru Bearingu Dorifuto) is a Performance Tip released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Dynamite Battle Layer System and the Burst Ultimate Layer Series. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-00 Ultimate Driver Get Campaign Prize on August 20, 2022.
It is referred to by Takara Tomy as the Ultimate Driver (究極ドライバー, Kyūkyoku Doraibā).[1]
Description
Metal Bearing Drift is a wide, round Performance Tip with an octagonal shape and a low angled, free spinning, conical sharp tip. As its name implies, Metal Bearing Drift is an upgraded form of the Drift, Metal Drift, and Bearing Drift Performance Tips, with the addition of a Metal Lock, a stronger spring, and ball bearings supporting the free spinning sharp tip. Compared to its predecessors, its conical sharp tip is slightly taller, with the center protruding more; this increases height by 1.5mm.
The sharp tip of Metal Bearing Drift creates low friction with the stadium floor, resulting in high Stamina and Burst Defense. The addition of ball bearings reduces friction between the tip and the shaft, increasing the free spin further and thus the Stamina. In addition, the wide diameter of the free spinning sharp tip helps maintain stability. These factors, combined with the overall round shape of Metal Bearing Drift, creates high Life-After-Death (LAD), and works particularly well against Opposite-Spin opponents.
However, the addition of a Metal Lock and ball bearings introduces two weaknesses, similar to the original Bearing Performance Tip.
The first is the poor Knock-Out (KO) Resistance caused by the tip; due to the low friction between the tip and stadium floor, Metal Bearing Drift is highly susceptible to Knock-Outs. The second is the poor Burst Resistance caused by the Metal Lock; the Metal Lock of Metal Bearing Drift has shorter tabs than standard and Dash Locks, resulting in lower Burst Resistance, despite the stronger spring. This makes Metal Bearing Drift easier to Burst than other Defense and Stamina Type Performance Tips, such as High Xtend+' and even the original Drift. Takara Tomy later released the Bearing Drift Performance Tip, which features a standard plastic Lock, and thus has higher Burst Resistance than Metal Bearing Drift, but less weight.
Overall
Due to its high Stamina, Burst Defense, and Life-After-Death (LAD), Metal Bearing Drift is an excellent Performance Tip for Defense and Stamina Type Combinations, particularly against Opposite-Spin opponents. The Metal Lock further increases its weight when compared to Drift, with the trade off being lower Burst Resistance. As such, it is recommended to use DB Cores such as Bahamut and Kerbeus to maximize Burst Resistance for a Metal Bearing Drift Combination. The addition of ball bearings further increases Metal Bearing Drift's high Stamina potential.
As such, Metal Bearing Drift is a must have for competitive bladers.
