- This article is about Metal Defense. For its normal counterpart, see Performance Tip - Defense (Burst).
Metal Defense (メタルディフェンス, Metaru Difensu) is a Performance Tip released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System as well as the Superking Layer System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the B-178 Random Booster Vol. 24 on February 27th, 2021.
Description
Metal Defense is the Metal Lock Driver version of the Defense Performance Tip. As such, it features a Metal Lock and a stronger spring, increasing weight and Burst Resistance. The Metal Lock has shorter tabs than standard and Dash Locks, resulting in lower Burst Resistance, despite the stronger spring. There is a mold variation of Metal Defense: initial releases of Metal Defense have the original Metal Lock design, which can damage a Layer's teeth. All subsequent reprints of Metal Lock Drivers from October 2021 onward feature a running change that shortens the tabs, reducing Burst Resistance but also the likelihood of causing damage to a Layer.
Like Defense, Metal Defense features a ball tip and sits at a standard height. A ring sits halfway down the Performance Tip, and the ball tip has four tabs. The tabs are intended to force the Metal Defense Combination back into an upright position after being knocked off balance and act as brakes to prevent Knock-Outs by striking against the stadium floor at the cost of Stamina. While the ring may imply Defense potential, it is positioned too low for any opposing Beyblade to make contact with. However, the smooth perimeter of the ring does grant Life-After-Death (LAD) potential.
Overall
Metal Defense is a versatile Performance Tip with excellent Defense and Stamina properties. However, Metal Defense is outclassed by other Defense Type Performance Tips such as Metal Universe and Atomic'.
As such, Metal Defense is recommended for collection purposes only.Products
