Metal Spike or Metal Sharp (メタルシャープ, Metaru Shāpu) is a Performance Tip released by Takara Tomy as part of the Hybrid Wheel System. It debuted in Japan with the release of the BB-59 Starter Burn Phoenix 135MS on December 26th, 2009, and in western countries with the release of the Burn Fireblaze 135MS Starter Pack in May 2010.
Description
Metal Spike (MS), as its name implies, is a "Spike" tip made of metal. It is mounted on a taller base than other "Spike" series Performance Tips, such as Spike (S). Metal Spike's small contact point produces very little friction on the stadium floor, even less than plastic "Spike" series Performance Tips. While this improves performance for Stamina Type combinations, the increased height of Metal Spike causes balance issues.
Rulings
Bottoms with sharp tips can damage Beystadiums when launched from high heights; due to its metal sharp tip, Metal Spike can dent Beystadiums. The World Beyblade Organization (WBO) has consequently banned Metal Spike from all Metal Fight tournaments, although this ban can be lifted by individual tournament Organizers with a "Ranked Clause".
