The Phantom Hurricane (Japanese: 幻影(ファントム)爆風撃(ハリケーン)) is a Special Move that was introduced in the "Beyblade" graphic novel series and is used by Tyson Granger with his Dragoon Fighter. The move has also been featured in the "Beyblade" TV series.

Description

The Phantom Hurricane is portrayed differently across the graphic novel series, TV series, and video games.

In the "Beyblade" graphic novel series and its sequel series "Bakuten Shoot Beyblade: Rising", the move is depicted as a rapid duplication of an actively-spinning Beyblade using the rapid rotation generated the Beyblade to displace the air around it, produce afterimages. When the is move activated, the Bey can produce multiple clones at a time that scatter through the Beystadium under the veil of a wind storm. These wind clones act as decoys to redirect the attention of the enemy Blader and Bey from the user's Bey or can ally with the user's Bey for a direct assault.

In The Graphic Novel

The Phantom Hurricane debuted in chapter 16.

The move appeared again in chapter 33 during the battle between Tyson and the Team Psykick Blader, Kane Yamashita; with Tyson employing the move using his Dragoon V and Kane using his Cyber Dragoon. The ensuing battle shows Tyson's Bey attacking Kane's Bey with the move, which Kane counters by switching to his Cyber Dragoon to "F Mode" allowing him to access the combat data of Tyson's previous Beys. Using this information, Kane immediately deploys his own Phantom Hurricane, effectively nullifying Tyson's assault.

Etymology

Though the Katakana "ライジングファントムハリケーン" was used as the syllabary for the reading of the Special Move Kanji, using the proper Hiragana gives the name an altered transliteration:

Kanji 幻影 爆風
Hiragana げんえい ばくふう げき
Transliteration Gen'ei Bakufū Geki
Literal translation phantom, vision, illusion blast (from an explosion) strike, hit, beat
Contextual Translation Phantom Blast Strike
