- This article is about the Hasbro version. For the Takara Tomy version, see BU Blade - Xiphoid.
Xiphoid is a QS Blade released by Hasbro as part of the Burst System as well as the QuadDrive System and the QuadStrike System. It debuted in western countries with the release of the Xcalius Power Speed Launcher Set.
Description
Hasbro's Xiphoid is a right-spin Attack Type QS Blade based on Takara Tomy's Xiphoid BU Blade. Xiphoid has a blocky shape similar to its Takara Tomy counterpart, but lacks any metal, being made completely of a single plastic piece. While the weight distribution is still imbalanced to an extent, the effect is not as notable as the Takara Tomy version, which focuses the weight at a sword tip-like protrusion. The sword tip-like protrusion of Hasbro's Xiphoid is noticeably shorter and rounder than the original, and thus is no longer the primary contact point of the QS Blade. Like other QD Blades, Xiphoid can switch between Apex and Core Modes by swapping the position of the Gravity Ring from the top of the Blade (Apex) to below it (Core).
Overall
Compared to Layers released by Takara Tomy in the Dynamite Battle Layer System, QuadStrike Layers like Xiphoid are too light to compete in the metagame.
As such, Xiphoid is not recommended for the Burst Format.
Due to its aggressive blocky shape, Xiphoid finds use in right-spin Attack Combinations in the format. However, a potential weakness is the high Burst risk created by the recoil; it is recommended to pair Xiphoid with Drive Chips that have high Burst Resistance, such as Perseus P7.
As such, Xiphoid is not a must have but is instead a welcome addition for the Burst Limited Format.
Xiphoid is not legal in the WBO's Burst Classic Format.
