Rantaro Kiyama (黄山 乱太郎, Kiyama Rantarō; Kiyama Rantaro), also known as Kumicho (クミチョー, Kumichō; Boss) in the Japanese version and The Head Honcho or Honcho for short in the English version, is the tritagonist in the anime and manga series, Beyblade Burst and one of supporting characters in Beyblade Burst Evolution and Beyblade Burst Surge. He is a member of the Beigoma Academy BeyClub as well as a member of the Spanish team: BC Sol. He returns in Beyblade Burst Surge as the coach for the protagonists Hikaru Hizashi and Hyuga Hizashi's team: The Comets. Rantaro currently battles with his Beyblade, Glide Roktavor Wheel Revolve 1S. He is also the older brother of Ranjiro Kiyama.
Appearance[]
Rantaro is a tall, comparative to his age, fair-skinned boy, has blonde hair that he wears in a pompadour and brown eyes. He wears a bandage on the bridge of his nose, has a habit of keeping an orange and red lollipop in his mouth, and carries a large white paper fan.
In Burst and Burst Evolution, his attire consists of a black gakuran jacket slung over his shoulders, akin to a cape, a dark-red tank top underneath, black gakuran trousers, a white sash as a belt, and brown laceless shoes. When he battles in Burst, he initially placed his comic books around his waistband (In the manga, these are specifically CoroCoro comics).
In Surge, he retains his full gakuran attire, but the jacket has a red interior and gold buttons, he wears an orange dress shirt, a blue sash as a belt, and brown dress shoes.
Personality[]
Rantaro is highly self-confident, often referring to himself as the Head Honcho and is good at sneaking things in and out of their school's strict regulations. He can be quite simple-minded and clueless, and is shown to not be very insightful (such as when he was unable to tell that Valt was upset over Shu's shoulder injury and when Ken was feeling lonely at Xander's grandpa's dojo). Despite this, he is honest and has a strong sense of justice.
Rantaro has many similar personality traits to Valt Aoi. Being naturally honest, he displays many of his emotions openly, whether it be happiness, anger, sadness or joy. He wants to be seen as a tough guy, but he is actually a big softie underneath it all. Often times, he is the first to encourage his teammates to do well before a battle and provide moral support whenever they are feeling down. In addition, Rantaro is shown to get along very well with younger children, retroactively foreshadowing his close relationship with his younger brother, Ranjiro.
Rantaro's greatest fear is revealed to be unicorns, though it is unknown how or where he developed this fear from. A couple of his favorite foods are tacos and meat. At one point, he threw a fit when Wakiya stole an entire plate of kabobs meant for the former, leaving him nothing but a single green onion.
As seen a couple of times in the anime, Rantaro doesn't like it when people call his jacket a cape.
In Surge, Rantaro becomes much wiser, sharing his advice with Hikaru and Hyuga and teaching them the importance of training, resting, and looking out for each other. He is a supportive coach for the brothers and is friendly to them. However, he tends to reserve his friendliness quite often, choosing to be more strict with Hikaru and Hyuga in an effort to make them stronger, not hesitating to yell at them or lecture them. Despite this, he shows sympathy to the Hizashis if either of them is sad. This was shown when he told Hikaru to release his emotions instead of being depressed. He also showed sympathy to Hyuga, asking him what was wrong when the latter was too tense during training.
Rantaro is shown to be much more responsible in Surge than during previous seasons. When Hyuga got lost right before the Legend Festival, he took full responsibility, claiming that it was his fault that his student had disappeared. He also saved Silas during battle, choosing to sacrifice his bey instead, despite his tense relationship with him.
Biography[]
Beyblade Burst (anime)[]
Rantaro was introduced in Let's Go! Valtryek!!, where he is first seen at the start of a battle against Valt Aoi. He won the battle against Valt without commanding his Beyblade once, as Valt's bad launches caused self-knockouts. He was then forced to clean up the mess caused by Valt's Victory Valtryek Boost Variable by Principal Shinoda.
He later registered for the local tournament and faced Valt once again in the first round of the tournament. Despite winning the first battle with a Ring-Out Finish and earning a point, Rantaro lost the second round due to a Burst Finish, resulting in Valt's overall victory. He complimented Valt on his performance afterwards.
Ever since then, Rantaro became good friends with Valt, Ken Midori, and Daigo Kurogami. They eventually go on to form their own Beyblading Club and train together.
Beyblade Burst (manga)[]
Rantaro Kiyama debuts in the first chapter as the first person ever to be challenged by Valt Aoi. However, their first battle ended up in disaster as Valt's failed launch broke the statue of the school's founder. As a result, both Rantaro and Valt were punished by their teacher.
Beyblade Burst Evolution[]
Sometime after Valt's battle against Lui in the Individual tournament finals, both Valt and Rantaro are scouted by Spain's team; BC Sol and their beyblades receive upgrades. They do so well that they become official members of BC Sol and battle in the World League. At various points, Rantaro and Valt join Wakiya and Daigo in learning more about the Snake Pit and their best blader Red Eye, who turned out to be their friend Shu. In the finals of the World League, he battles in the first round. There, he defeats Richard Yello through his Stamina Launch overpowering Richard's special move. Elated, he thanks Trad for giving him the grip to help him grow. During a flashback before the final match between Silas and Joshua, he gave Silas a lollipop to help him relax as his teammate's efforts to push himself in training.
Beyblade Burst Turbo[]
Rantaro is not present in Turbo, save for a few appearances in flashbacks. However, his brother Ranjiro is one of the main Bladers. He is also mentioned to have passed down his Raging Roktavor Bey to Ranjiro as well.
Beyblade Burst Surge[]
Rantaro first appears in Surge in a battle with Valt and Silas.
Beyblades[]
- Roktavor Heavy Survive: Rantaro's primary Beyblade in the Beyblade Burst manga.
- Raging Roktavor Gravity Revolve: Rantaro's primary Beyblade in Beyblade Burst. He would later give it to his younger brother, Ranjiro.
- Berserk Roktavor 4Cross Flugel: Rantaro's primary Beyblade in Beyblade Burst Evolution.
- Berserk Roktavor 4 Flugel: Rantaro's Beyblade in Evolution without the use of the Cross frame, giving Roktavor an increase in speed.
- Glide Roktavor Wheel Revolve 1S: Rantaro's Lightning Beyblade in Beyblade Burst Surge. His brother, Ranjiro also uses this Bey, albeit in different colors.
- Cyclone Roktavor Giga Never-6: Rantaro's Quad Beyblade in the Beyblade Burst QuadDrive manga.
Launch Styles[]
- Stamina Launch: When this launch is executed properly, it allows Roktavor to attack with more power. However, if the launch fails, Roktavor bursts on its own rather easily.
- Lightning Launch: When a Blader has achieved complete synchronization with his Beyblade, the Launcher will illuminate and sparkle, granting the bey a temporary increase in speed and power.
Special Moves[]
- Roktavor Zone: Roktavor takes up the center of the Beystadium and uses its strong Stamina and Defense to repel opponents while reducing Stamina loss.
- Ultra Roktavor Zone: A stronger version of Roktavor Zone in which Roktavor utilizes its Stamina Wings to create a miniature cyclone that repels attacks and allows it to spin for longer periods of time.
- Stamina Wings: In the middle of a battle, Roktavor will release the stamina wings on its Layer to boost its centrifugal force.
- Glide Tornado: Rotating at high speed, Glide Roktavor uses its wings to generate an upward force to create a tornado.
- Double Tornado: The Kiyama brothers' Glide Roktavor Beys combine their Glide Tornado moves to form one large tornado as they spin in complete synchronization.
- Synchro Lightning: As they move in complete synchronization, Brave Valtryek and Glide Roktavor build up speed by using the Ultimate Storm Beystadium's Storm Ring, then vault themselves in the air with the stadium's slope and slam down upon the opposing Beyblades to knock them out of the stadium.
- Roaring Tornado: While spinning at great speed, Glide Roktavor generates a cyclone with its Ring, increasing its own speed at an even greater force.

Trivia[]
- Rantaro is the only member of the Beigoma Academy BeyClub whose last name does not reference a color, as Kiyama means "tree mountain" in Japanese.
- Rantaro's first name and his bey, Roktavor share the same initials, hinting at the letter R in the center of his bey.
- Rantaro wears his jacket around his shoulders just like how Ryuga wore his.
- While everyone else "evolved" their Beyblades in Evolution, Rantaro simply got a new one while giving his old one to his brother.
- His last name "Kiyama" means "yellow mountain" in Japanese. Coincidentally, it is also sounds like the Arabic word "Qiyamah" which means "apocalypse day", befitting his Beyblade, Roktavor, which was themed after Ragnarok.
- Rantaro is one of ten characters who did not make an anime debut in Beyblade Burst Rise, but made an appearance in the manga: the nine others being Silas Karlisle, Kristina Kuroda, Trad Vasquez, Shu Kurenai, Lui Shirosagi, Ken Midori, Raul Comas, Kit Lopez, and Daigo Kurogami.
- Rantaro and his brother are the first characters in the Burst series to use the same Bey together.
- Rantaro's zodiac is a Taurus.
- Rantaro is the only Kiyama brother to debut in a season's premiere.
