Valkyrie Oval Needle (ヴァルキリー・オーバル・ニードル, Varukirī Ōbaru Nīdoru) is a Defense Type Beyblade released by Takara Tomy as part of the Burst System. It was released in Japan on December 26th, 2015 for 864円 as one of eight possible Beyblades in Random Booster Vol. 2 Evil-eye Wing Needle.

Energy Layer - Valkyrie[]

Main article: Energy Layer - Valkyrie
The motif is of the goddess of battle, Valkyrie. A right-spin Attack Type Layer that bursts the opponent by launching a powerful attack with its three large blades.
— Official Description

Takara Tomy's Valkyrie features a three-winged design, with each wing sporting a set of two protruding contact points. These consist of a larger contact point and a smaller kite-shaped contact point. The centre of the Layer depicts an armored face, with feathers protruding off of the helmet, and a V-shape between them to represent this Layer's namesake: valkyries, Odin's handmaidens in Norse mythology.

Due to its aggressive shape and the angles of the points of contact, Valkyrie was one of the best Layers for Attack combinations, excelling in both Burst and Knockout (KO) Attack. Valkyrie features four Locks (teeth) of tall length which allow it to withstand its own recoil, however, like other pre-Xcalibur Layers, the teeth of Valkyrie quickly wear down with use and the Layer must be replaced after heavy use.

At its release, Takara Tomy's Valkyrie was one of the best Layers for Attack combinations and remained as the best Attack Layer until the release of Lost Longinus and the God Layer System, where Valkyrie then became too light to remain competitive.

Forge Disc - Oval[]

Main article: Forge Disc - Oval

Oval, like the name implies, is shaped like an oval. Os appear on the upper side of the Forge Disc as well for easy recognition. In theory, Oval would provide extra momentum to the Beyblade's spin by spreading the weight at two opposite sides. However, its underside is mostly hollowed out, making it the second lightest Forge Disc released, the first being 12. Its odd shape only ends up hindering the Beyblade's Stability, making the Combination using it precess dangerously the moment another Beyblade hits it. Even for Niche Combinations such as Hop Attackers using Quake, Oval only poses a risk of Destabilization, and it cannot make up for it by any significant aid in Attack.

Performance Tip - Needle[]

Main article: Performance Tip - Needle

Needle features a ball shaped tip at standard height covered with small studs and has four small tabs surrounding the center of the tip like Defense. The studded design is meant to increase friction with the stadium floor and the small tabs are meant to act as brakes by striking against the stadium floor, both to prevent Knock-Outs.

When in mint condition and launched with significant power, Needle moves around the stadium akin to an Attack Type for a short period of time before it moves and settles to the center of the stadium, like the Jog Ball Performance Tip from Metal Fight Beyblade. When the tip settles in the center of the stadium it will spin on very few of the studs and conserve Stamina, acting similarly to the stud of Fusion. When struck by an opposing Beyblade, more studs and the four tabs will come into contact with the curvature of the stadium floor, increasing friction and Knock-Out Defense at the cost of Stamina loss.

When worn however, the studs of the tip flatten down and create a smooth surface, creating a performance akin to Defense with greater Stamina and less initial roaming.

Depending on the launch strength, the initial movement can be used to avoid attacks from Beyblades in a banking pattern or it can bring the Beyblade too close to the edge and be vulnerable to Knock-Outs.
